The ReImagination of Success
Richard Olivier's work today is at the leading edge of bringing the world of theatre and the arts into the development of authentic leaders. At this evening's event Richard turns his attention to the meaning of success in our society; what it is, and what it might be.
“Sweet are the uses of adversity.
This our life, exempt from public haunt,
Finds tongues in trees, books in the running brooks,
Sermons in stones, and good in everything.” - As You Like It
In difficult times we often fall back on the old, habitual ways of doing things when what may really be demanded of us is that we reimagine our future. Current definitions of success are all too often limited to money and fame, supported by the apparently insatiable desire of the global capitalist mindset and the self- inflating vanity of a media obsessed with superficial appearance.
Sometimes it takes a growing awareness that a particular story or definition of life has outlived its usefulness in order to ease out of a past role that has brought culturally sanctioned rewards. The great challenge, then, and the great calling of our time is to live larger than our fears.
This evening Richard Olivier will draw on his unique interpretation of the wisdom of Shakespeare to explore the roots of renewal and regeneration. If we are to survive the challenges that lie ahead in this century we must begin to reimagine and redefine our answer to the question 'what is success?'
